Old Tappan, New Jersey

Architect: RS MANNINO Architecture

Project Location: Old Tappan, New Jersey

The project objective was to create an elevated cabana kitchen for our clients who enjoy entertaining their guests poolside. We incorporated a contemporary kitchen style based on our client’s request for a dramatic luxe look for their cabana kitchen. The black & white luxe interiors were designed to mirror the future design of the home's exterior which will be white stucco with black windows. Another objective was to create a sophisticated kitchen design and open living space for multigenerational use as the grandparents often visit.

One of the project challenges was to remodel an unfinished basement into a multi-use entertaining space that includes an open kitchen and living room that looks out to the pool, guest bedroom suite and luxury bathroom, home gym concealed by an oversized barn door, and sliding glass doors that connect the kitchen to the patio. The client also requested radiant heat flooring to make the space cozy and comfortable in winter months.

We provided numerous design solutions and luxurious elements to transform this underutilized lower-level walk-out into an entertainer's dream. The two-tone show kitchen is universally friendly to both design ideas. Floating cabinetry in the living room space matches the aesthetic of the kitchen design. Modern multi-slide patio doors were specified for the kitchen to patio and living room to pool deck to help blur the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The diamond pattern V groove ceiling design takes its inspiration from the adjacent barn door design in the kitchen that conceals a fitness room. The ceiling design's centered paneling radiates out and makes a dramatic statement as it continues the home’s black and white color theme.

The understated custom black wood panel hood fits in with the design aesthetic and is a good contrast with the white cabinetry. Brass accents in the kitchen add a touch of elegance, such as the pendant lighting, faucet, and hardware.

The family’s dog Sophie walked on to the photoshoot for her cameo in a yellow tuxedo tie.
